EDUCATIONAL PROJECT
"It’s fun learning at The Little School House"
Le Petit Cours is a private secular school. It offers an English/French bilingual preschool and primary education. An equal balance between general French and English teaching makes it possible to respect the official French curriculum. As a mixed school, it accommodates children as young as young as 3 years old.
Le Petit Cours adopts
- an
active education by means of play and pleasure, motivates
the child while preserving his or her own nature and supports the
blossoming of the child's own personality, as well as the emergence
of autonomy. This is not incompatible with the development of the
sense of effort, work well done and the acquisition of fundamental
knowledge tools.
- an individualised education,
which makes it possible to manage the rate of progress, not by age,
but by each child's individual rhythm. Thus, the child learns to read
as soon as he or she is mature enough and expresses the desire.
The small number of children in the school and classes:
- enables Le Petit Cours to
be a community with life rules but in a warm, calm and relaxed
family atmosphere.
- allows each child to be personally followed and receive additional support according to his or her specific needs.
An original system of multi-level classes:
- offers the children a continuous progression without marked breaks between grade levels.
- avoids repeating grades and a possible
sense of failure.
Modernisation
and tradition:
Open to progress, Le Petit Cours still attaches importance to
some traditional values, such as courtesy, public-spirit, self-esteem
and respect towards others... Certain often neglected disciplines
are maintained: Moral code, civic instruction... The school finds
the right balance by approaching effects of fashion with caution.
Thus, while applying modern teaching techniques, the traditional methods,
which have proven reliable, such as the phonic reading, are
not disowned.
Although innovative, Le Petit Cours is not a marginal, parallel or over-protecting establishment. The children will adapt easuly to any other educational establishment, whether it be public or private.
The Schedule:
- is adaptable to the available
energy of the children, as well as to various circumstances,
for it is flexible and evolutionary.
- is widely open to experimentation, observation, imagination
and creativity.
- proposes many diverse and short term activities. Daily moments of relaxation, rest, napping for the youngest children and recreation at the playground break-up the day.
